Spotlight falls on broadband connections in Northallerton area
1:43pm Tuesday 27th August 2013 in News
THE advent of superfast broadband is coming under the spotlight in Northallerton next month.
Enjoying a faster online experience will be the theme of the Northallerton and Villages Community Forum’s annual general meeting on September 11.
Having a fast and more reliable connection is expected to have a big impact at home and for businesses, with so many tools and services available at a touch of a button.
And the meeting will include a presentation by the chief executive of Superfast Nortrh Yorkshire, John Moore, on its rollout across Northallerton and the surrounding villages.
Under the terms of the contract awarded to BT in 2012, 90 per cent of the population of North Yorkshire will have access to broadband speeds in excess of 25Mpbs by the end of 2014.
The AGM will give a picture of the progress made to date, details of the areas scheduled for upgrades and what can be done to help those communities that may not receive any significant improvements as a result of the initiative.
An outline of what the group has been doing over the last year and what projects are currently underway will also be given at the meeting which takes place in the council chamber of the Civic Centre at Stone Cross, Northallerton, at 6.30pm.
