Toddlers surprise their parents with graduation ceremony at High Bank Day Nursery
IT was hats off to children at a village nursery as a surprise graduation ceremony marked their transition to ‘big’ school.
The special ceremony was held for the youngsters at High Bank Day Nursery in Stapleton, near Darlington, to mark the end of their final year before moving on to primary school in September.
The group of 16 children proudly donned gowns and mortarboards as they entered the nursery to the surprise of their waiting families who had been kept in the dark about the format of the event.
The children sang songs they had been rehearsing, before receiving their rolls of honour from pre-school staff.
Jennifer Thompson, of High Bank Nursery, said: “The children and staff had been planning the graduation ceremony for a while and it was hard to keep it a secret from the parents.
“We even had to keep it from three members of staff whose children were graduating.
“Some of the children have been with us since they were babies and whilst it is always sad to see them go, we are proud to have played a part in their development and we wish them every success in the future.
“This was our first graduation ceremony and it was such a success that this will now become an annual event.”
