Pregnant teen left terrified after being attacked twice
A PREGNANT teenager was left unable to go out alone after being attacked twice, a court heard yesterday (Thursday August 29).
While 15-weeks pregnant, the vulnerable 18-year-old was twice set upon by her ex-partner Hayden James Price.
Appearing before Darlington Magistrates Court, Price, 21, admitted slapping the teen following an argument on Saturday, April 13, at a house in Bishop Auckland.
Vickie Wilson, prosecuting, said Price – of Eden House, Ferryhill – went to the girl’s house and assaulted her again the next day.
Mrs Wilson said: “On April 14, frightened because of his previous behaviour, the victim ran from her house barefoot followed by the defendant.
“She went to the floor as she did not want to go back into her property and he then dragged her across the ground by her hair.
“He then hit her across the face and punched her in the forehead.”
Following the second attack, the teenager – who was left with severe bruising - had to spend a night in Darlington Memorial Hospital.
In a victim statement she said: “I have lost my confidence and am extremely nervous when I am out of the house on my own.
“The only places I go now are to work and then home, I don’t go out as I am frightened I might be approached by him or his family.
“I don’t want to worry about looking over my shoulder for the rest of my life.”
Lawrence Petterson, mitigating, said Price was remorseful and sorry for his actions.
Price pleaded guilty to two counts of assault by beating and was ordered to serve a 24 month community order, do 90 hours of unpaid work and pay £300 compensation.
