Darlington FC footballers encourage saving at the town's credit union
FOOTBALLERS visited a credit union at the weekend to encourage sports fans to save for their season tickets.
Darlington Football Club’s team captain, Gary Brown, and player Steve Johnson spent time chatting to visitors to the town’s credit union on Saturday August 31.
The players were there to promote the second year of an initiative launched to help football fans save for their season tickets.
Savers on the scheme can pay as much or as little as they are able into their accounts at Darlington Credit Union, using savings cards specially branded with the Darlington FC logo.
Tony Brockley, co-ordinator at the credit union, said: “We have got special savings cards and we also sponsor the goalkeeper’s gloves to promote the idea of good saving.
“We are happy to work with a lot of groups in Darlington for a lot of different reasons and the football club is a big part of the town.
“A season ticket is a big cost for some and so we are encouraging people to save every month to cover a big part of that.”
Mr Brockley said the players’ visit to the credit union had made for a great day, especially for young football fan Jack Steven, who celebrated his sixth birthday while meeting the pair.
