Psychic 'grossly intrusive' claims condemned by Claudia Lawrence family
4:57pm Tuesday 3rd September 2013 in News
THE family of Claudia Lawrence has condemned a psychic who claims to have had visions of the chef being strangled.
Rodney Ballard, 66, claimed on his website that he had seen a tanned man in his fifties, with short grey hair attacking a woman in a car parked near Miss Lawrence’s house in Heworth, York, on the morning of her disappearance in 2009.
He also posted a crude pencil drawing of the scene and claimed to have had another vision, which told him Miss Lawrence’s body had been left in a shallow grave near the city.
Martin Dales, a spokesman for Miss Lawrence's father, Peter, said North Yorkshire Police had been asked to consider whether Mr Ballard’s “grossly intrusive” internet posts amounted to harassment.
Mr Dales said: “He has been harassing us for four-and-a-half years and it’s causing a great deal of distress.
“I think he has become obsessed with the issue. If people do something long enough you are effectively trolling.”
“It begs a lot of questions in terms of how social media allows people to comment under different identities.
Electrical engineer Mr Ballard, of Nottingham, claimed he was fighting for Miss Lawrence and that his visions were true.
He said: "I can see things and I can make contact with the lost souls and those that are no longer with us.
"I'm not trolling them, I'm only putting it out in public. I'll just carry on and if the knowledge is given, I will release it."
A spokeswoman for North Yorkshire Police, which has said they believed Miss Lawrence was murdered, said officers were examining Mr Ballard’s posts, which she described as “unhelpful”.
