4:58pm Tuesday 3rd September 2013 in News
A TEAM of adventurous mechanics from two different garages will swap cars for bikes when they embark on an epic fundraising challenge.
Mechanics from Gregg Little Testing Centre and Aycliffe Autos in Newton Aycliffe hope to raise more than £1,000 for charity by completing a gruelling coast-to-coast bike ride.
The 144-mile journey will begin in Whitehaven in Cumbria and will see the group cycle through the Lake District and across the Pennines before reaching their destination of Roker beach in Sunderland.
Among the team are Callum Thain, 15, who helps out at Gregg Little on Saturdays, and manager Les Douthwaite, 36.
They will be joined by their colleagues James Little and Richard Wilson, as well as John Howlet, Morgan Rowland and Kelvin Wren from Aycliffe Autos.
Mr Douthwaite said the team had been training together for the challenge, which takes place on September 14 and 15.
“We are all looking forward to it,” he said. “We tried to do it a couple of years ago but didn’t manage to complete it. This time we are determined to finish.”
All money raised in sponsorship will be divided between Willowburn Hospice in Alnwick in Northumberland and Macmillan Cancer Care.
