SOME of the country’s top rally drivers are expected to arrive in North Yorkshire later this month.
The two day Trackrod Rally Yorkshire will take place on September 27 and 28 in Ryedale and will attract some of the sport’s top cars and drivers.
Pickering Market Place will host the ceremonial start on Friday evening, with cars arriving from 5.45pm and some of the stages will take place in Staindale and Dalby forest that night.
The following morning the Trackrod Forest Stages Rally will set off from the rally’s headquarters, at Pickering Showground.
There will be designated spectator stages at Dalby forest, where there will also be live commentary and there will be other spectator stages in the nearby village of Cropton and Langdale.
Other rally championships and cups will also be fought for over the weekend, including the MSA British Rally Championship, one of the highlights of domestic rallying.
Councillor Linda Cowling, leader of Ryedale District Council, said: “This is a welcome return to Pickering and the revamped showground after an absence of four years and it will be a marvellous opportunity for both competitors and spectators to enjoy our fabulous countryside.
“Ryedale District Council is fully committed to encouraging events that will support the economy in Ryedale as it is well recognised that where the Rally goes some one million pounds are spent in the local economy.”
