Barnard Castle golf day raises more than £3,600 for Durham County Council chairman's chosen charities
TWO charities received a welcome boost from a money spinning golf day.
More than £3,600 was raised at the event, in aid of Durham County Council chairman Councillor Pauline Charlton's chosen charities, the Butterwick Hospice and Treetops Children’s Ward at the University Hospital of North Durham.
Coun Charlton said the event, at Barnard Castle Golf Club had been a fantastic day.
Barclays Bank pledged £3,000 towards the amount raised, which Coun Charlton said was a wonderful gesture.
She added: “This is my largest individual fund raising event of the year and we are still totting up the final figures. More money is expected but realise over £3,600 to date, is absolutely wonderful.”
Coun Tracie Smith, who works part-time for Barclays, said: “This is something Barclays is delighted to support for Coun Charlton’s charities.
“The tournament has been supported by our Chester-le-Street, Durham City and Bishop Auckland offices and staff volunteered their services for such things as selling raffle tickets and serving refreshments.”
