Vegan cafe sells out of food
ORGANISERS have hailed a pop-up vegan cafe as a spectacular success, after selling out of food.
The not-for-profit Durham Vegan Pop Up Cafe first appeared in August and returned to Alington House community centre, in Durham City, on Saturday (September 7).
Volunteer Meg Thomas said: “It was really disappointing to send people away, as many people had made a special trip, but it was great that so many people flocked to try something different.
“Next month we will be well prepared to feed a lot more people and promise that nobody will go away hungry.”
Saturday’s menu included lavender and lemon cake, vanilla and strawberry cupcakes, vegan chorizo pizzas and BBQ cheese burgers.
There was a surprise performance by folk musician Dangle Manatee.
The cafe returns on Saturday, October 5, from 11am to 3pm. It is run by members of Sunderland and Durham Vegans.
