SUPERMARKET staff have raised £1,000 for charity by taking on two cycling challenges.
On Saturday (September 7), a team of colleagues from Sainsbury’s in Sedgefield, completed a sponsored bike ride from the store to the supermarket chain’s Arnison Centre branch on the outskirts of Durham City.
The ride coincided with an ongoing challenge inside the store, which involves staff cycling the equivalent of the 425-mile journey from Sedgefield to John o’ Groats on exercise bikes donated by The Gym in Fishburn.
So far, their fundraising efforts have raised £1,000 for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research and the store’s charity of the year, Trimdon Village Hall.
Rachael Owens, manager of Sainsbury’s at Sedgefield, said she was really proud of the team and was looking forward to taking on more fundraising challenges.
