Contractor criticised for cobble repair work in Richmond
CONTRACTORS have come under fire for “appalling” repairs to cobbles in a historic market town.
North Yorkshire county councillor Stuart Parsons said four areas had been missed and there were 22 “fails” after staff from Ringway finished cobbling work in the town's Newbiggin area.
A meeting of North Yorkshire County Council's Richmondshire area committee heard it was the second occasion community leaders in Richmond had complained about the contractor's work to repair cobbles.
“The quality of work is absolutely appalling yet again,” said Coun Parsons.
“I'm not happy with Ringway's work and I don't feel they should be allowed to do further work for North Yorkshire County Council.
“They have failed time and time again.”
Barrie Mason, county council assistant director for highways and transportation, said he was also unhappy with the level of failures.
He said the company had a ten-year contract but the authority had the ability to take years off that contract.
