Future of dales funding programme to be planned
A SCHEME that has resulted in more than £2m in funding being awarded community projects in the Yorkshire Dales is to be celebrated ahead of its next phase.
The current 2008 – 2013 LEADER Programme is now drawing to a close and preparations are underway to plan the next stage of the programme.
The Yorkshire Dales LEADER Local Action Group has provided grants of between £5,000 and £20,000 for projects that helped improve life in rural communities and preserve its culture.
Since 2008 it has helped dozens of projects, from events designed to educate people about wildflowers and meadows in the dales to supporting small charities such as Keld Resource Centre.
Now a final celebration event is being held on Wednesday, October 16 at Fountains Abbey to highlight some of the successes and plan the future LEADER Programme.
Rima Berry, Yorkshire Dales LEADER Co-ordinator said: “LEADER funding has supported so many exceptional rural development initiatives driven by passionate local communities.
“To help us celebrate these achievements, we would love to be joined by representatives from as many of these initiatives as possible on 16th October.
“The invitation is also extended to any individuals or organisations interested in helping develop a new Local Development Strategy for our area, or anyone who would simply like to learn more about LEADER.”
The event will allow people to get involved in helping plan the next stage of the programme and learn about how it can boost the economic regeneration of North Yorkshire.
In the Yorkshire Dales area, Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust (YDMT) has been one the main organisations amongst several agencies that make up the programme.
YDMT director David Sharrod will be speaking at the event about what the future holds in store for LEADER. Workshops will take place to look at the development of the phase of the initiative.
The event is being run jointly by the Yorkshire Dales LEADER Local Action Group and North York Moors Coast and Hills LEADER Local Action Group.
Places at the event are limited. To book, contact Joannah Collins on; email@example.com before October 2.
