Free safety tests offered on electric blankets
4:34pm Thursday 12th September 2013 in News
TRADING standards officers in Darlington are offering people the chance to get their electric blanket safety tested before winter.
The free test sessions will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday, September 24 and 25, at Age UK Darlington’s Beaumont Street West centre.
Organised by Darlington Borough Council’s Trading Standards team with Age UK Darlington and County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service the tests aim to highlight the potential hazards of electric blankets.
Last year, a third of blankets tested were identified as unsafe. Unsafe blankets will be disposed of safely, with discounts offered on replacements.
Councillor Chris McEwan, the council’s cabinet member for economy, said: “This is a valuable service which saves lives. Testing is free for Darlington residents so ensure your own safety and help elderly loved ones and neighbours by booking an appointment to have your electric blankets checked”.
To book an appointment call 01325-362832.
