GLAMOUR took centre stage at Thirsk Racecourse, during its annual Ladies’ Day.
About 7,000 people attended the recent event in North Yorkshire, where fashion and elegance were all part of the attraction.
Barkers of Northallerton sponsored the Best Dressed Lady and Best Dressed Man competition for the second year running, with Jane Hunter from the store picking the best dressed woman from nearly 100 race-goers. Guy Barker, son of department store owner Charles Barker, judged the men’s contest.
Annette Knowles from Nottingham and Stephen Hanson, from Wakefield, were the chosen winners.
Milliner Jennifer Roberts, from Adorn Hats in Harrogate sponsored and judged a separate contest to find the best hat, a prize which went to Michelle Harkin, from Cleethorpes.
Other special events for Ladies Day on Saturday, September 7 included a lawn marquee, with lunch and afternoon tea served.
Sales and marketing manager for Thirsk Racecourse, Sophia Monkman, said: “We were very lucky. We had 30mm of rain the day before Ladies Day, but luckily it turned out fine.
“It’s only the second time we’ve had a competition for Best Dressed Man, but we had 30 men enter the contest, which we were really pleased with.”
