Villages hoping for biggest show yet
ORGANISERS are hoping for their biggest village show yet next weekend (Saturday, September 21).
West Rainton and Leamside show will feature horticulture and crafts in Jubilee Hall, West Rainton, near Durham City.
The show has grown since being founded six years ago and last year featured more than 200 entries, up by 40 per cent on 2011, plus an entry from every child at the village primary school.
This year, there are ten categories, including horticulture, flowers, baking and preserves, photography and needle and crafts. In total, there are 44 classes.
Entry is open to residents and anyone with a connection to the village and costs £1 for adults, 50p for children.
Entry forms have been printed in the village newsletter and are available from the post office, Costcutter and the pharmacy. Alternatively, call show co-ordinator Kath Whitehouse on 0191-5841624.
Jubilee Hall will be open for public viewing from noon to 2pm, with prizegiving from 2pm to 2.30pm. Entry is free and visitors are invited to vote for the ‘Best in Show’ prize.
