Chase fails to catch bike thief

BIKE STOLEN: A pedal cycle was taken from outside Baker’s News, in Princess Street, Bishop Auckland, on Friday, August 30, at about 6.50pm.
It is described as a black Carrera Vulcan with blue writing on the frame.
The male suspect rode the bike up Princes Street and turned onto Braithwaite Street in the direction of Etherley Lane recreation ground. The owner gave chase but was unable to catch him.
PC Andy Denham is appealing for the occupants of a black Audi Cabriolet believed to have been travelling up Princes Street at the time to get in touch.
Witnesses should call 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800-555-111.
QUIZ AND SUPPER: There will be a supper and a quiz at St James Church, Coundon, on Tuesday, September 24. At 7pm. A raffle and tombola will also take place. Tickets cost £5. For more information call 01388-661985.
COUNCIL MEETING: The next meeting of Bishop Auckland Town Council will take place tomorrow (Tuesday, September 17) at 6pm. Members of the public are invited to attend.
COFFEE MORNING: White House Funeral Services, in Surtees House, Hilton Road, Newton Aycliffe, will host a coffee morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support on Friday, September 27, at 10.30am.
EXHAUST STOLEN: An exhaust system was stolen from a parked Mercedes Sprinter van on Melrose Drive, St Helen Auckland, overnight on Thursday, September 5. Witnesses are asked to call Bishop Auckland priority crime team on 101, ext 6732565 or Crimestoppers on 0800-555-111.
GARDEN SHOW: The Bishop Auckland Hospital Garden Club show will take place on Saturday, September 21 and Sunday, September 22. All entries must be benched on Saturday between noon and 2pm and it costs 50p per entry. Judging by Bob Latcham will take place between 2pm and 4pm. All produce will be auctioned on Sunday at 8pm.
