WALKERS can raise money for charity and get fit on a five-mile ramble through the region’s countryside this weekend.
The Darlington Heart Walk, in aid of the British Heart Foundation, will fund research into the causes and cures of heart disease.
Willing walkers will meet at Lingfield Point, in Darlington, on Sunday (September 22) taking in the black path along the original route of the Darlington-Stockton railway line and through South Burdon before heading back to Lingfield Point.
The event starts at 11am and is free to join.
Participants who raise more than £10 in sponsorship money will receive a free British Heart Foundation t-shirt.
Andy Scott, Darlington Borough Council’s cabinet minister for health and partnerships, said: “This walk is a great chance for people to get out and see their local countryside while helping themselves to stay fit and healthy and at the same time supporting a very worthy cause.”
