Church to hold charity event
3:52pm Thursday 19th September 2013 in News
A HARVEST supper and 'cow drive' will be held for charity at Elm Ridge Methodist church in Darlington on September 21.
The event is part of the churches harvest celebrations and will be funding the charity 'Send a Cow', which is celebrating its 25th year working with some of the poorest families in Africa.
It works to give African families a way to feed themselves, while working their way out of poverty. This is achieved through providing seeds, training, livestock and ongoing support.
Reverend Gillian Houghton, minister of the church, said: “We thought a Cow Drive would be fun and would reflect the importance of the work Send A Cow does.”
The event, taking place on Saturday, will consist of a harvest supper and Cow Drive from 7pm.
A Beetle Drive is a traditional dice game usually played at community events. The use of a cow instead of a beetle, is to highlight the charity's aims.
Tickets are priced at £4 for adults and £10 for a family ticket, and are available from the church office or by telephoning Ali Dinsdale on 07964-438179.
