Hurworth Country Fair holds its own against the Festival of Thrift
DESPITE competing with the massive Festival of Thrift in Darlington, Hurworth’s annual Country Fair still managed to pull in the crowds for another successful year.
The fair, held at the Grange on Saturday, featured around 30 stalls and a host of attractions including American wrestling, medieval swordplay and fairground games.
An estimated 2,000 people flocked to the event which was blessed by fine weather, as Hurworth parish councillor Ken Pattison explained: “I went off extremely well again this year – the weather obviously helped.
“One big disappointment was that we were competing with the thrift festival, which meant we lost about eight traders and probably some visitors.
“It was unfortunate that happened and it lessened the day a bit, but it was still a nice day and a very successful event.”
Funds raised from the fair will go back into the Hurworth Grange Community Association for the benefit of the village.
