£2m housing development finishes ahead of schedule in Newton Aycliffe
TWENTY-TWO new homes will soon be available to rent in a County Durham town after a £2m development was finished ahead of schedule.
The new development replaces the former Greenfields Nursing Home, at Greenfield Way in Newton Aycliffe, and comprises 11 two-bedroom and 11 three-bedroom homes.
Plans for the properties were welcomed by police and residents, as the derelict nursing home had become a magnet for anti-social youths.
The homes, which were built by Galliford Try on behalf of the homes and communities organisation livin, will be advertised next week and will be ready to move into by mid-November, three months ahead of the original schedule.
They will only be let to those who live or work in Newton Aycliffe and have benefited from funding from government’s Homes and Community Agency.
Built to strict environmental standards, the homes feature high levels of insulation, double-glazing and high efficiency boilers to help tenants save money on utility bills, while being environmentally responsible.
Ian Brown, head of development and allocations for livin, said: “Greenfields is our largest new build development to date and we’ve already experienced a lot of interest in the new homes.
“We are urging anyone interested in renting one of the new homes to get in touch as soon as possible.”
Homes will be available to bid on from 3 October by visiting livin.co.uk/findahome or durhamkeyoption.co.uk.
