Open mic evening in Darlington
OPEN MIC Budding musicians can perform in front of a live audience at The Old Vic in Darlington every Friday night. The recently launched open mic sessions begin at 8.30pm. Backing tracks and a sound system can be used by anyone who wants to perform.
CHARITY DONATION The Darlington Association on Disability was recently named runner-up in Asda’s Chosen By You, Given By Us token voting initative. The charity, which supports disabled people and carers in the town, has received a donation of £50 from the supermarket chain.
COFFEE MORNING A school in Darlington raised hundreds of pounds for charity yesterday (Friday September 27). As part of Britain’s Biggest Coffee Morning, staff, parents and pupils at Longfield Academy raised £349.09 for Macmillan Cancer Care.
TEEN SINGER Singer Oli Patterson, recently named as a regional finalist in the Open Mic UK competition, will perform at The Hole in the Wall pub in Darlington on Saturday October 5. The gig begins at 8.30pm.
DOORSTEP WALK A Doorstep Walk, hosted by Age UK will take place on Monday October 14. The eight-mile walk between South Park and Hurworth begins at 10.30am. FILM CLUB Darlington Film Club will screen cult favourite Kiss Kiss Bang Bang on Tuesday September 30. The screening begins at 8pm and tickets cost £3. Suitable for 15+.
KETTLEBELL SEMINAR UK and world record holders Abi Johnston and Scott McLaughlin will teach a seminar on kettlebell snatch technique on Sunday October 6. JAZZ CLUB The Andy Bennett Quintet will perform at an evening hosted by the Darlington Jazz Club on Monday September 29. The event begins at 5.30pm and will take place at The Forum. Entrance is £3 or £1 for Young Musicians.
CHURCH CELEBRATION A celebration of St Michael’s Day will be held at St Michael’s Church in Heighington tomorrow (Sunday September 29). A Feast of Modern Worship Songs will begin at 6pm and will feature an address from the former vicar of Heighington, Reverend Canon Dr Philip Thomas.
