A POP-UP sing-along will be held by the clock tower in the Market Place, Thirsk, on Saturday, (October 5), from 11am to noon. Scouts, Beavers and Cubs from Hillside Scout Group will be joined by Beavers and Cubs from Thirsk in performing a range of campfire songs with actions after being challenged by the North Yorkshire Scouts commissioner to undertake scouting activities in public. Knayton group Scout leader Iris de Wet said she hoped shoppers would join in.

CANCER FUNDRAISER: A coffee day to raise funds for Yorkshire Cancer Research will be held on Wednesday, October 9, from 10am to 3pm, at the Golden Fleece Hotel, Thirsk. Entry, including coffee and biscuits, costs £1.50.

FORCES APPEAL: A Royal Air Force Association branch has thanked Easingwold Air Training Corps and donors to its recent Wings Appeal collection in Thirsk and Easingwold, which raised £800 for welfare funds.
