Counselling service seeks to create Shildon foodbank
5:28pm Wednesday 2nd October 2013 in News
A COUNSELLING group is seeking to expand its services with the creation of a foodbank to serve the residents of Shildon.
The South Durham Counselling Service provides advice and support from its base in the Shildon People’s Centre.
The Main Street-based centre started 11-years-ago and it offers free counselling to children and adults and there are counselors who can offer advice on rape and sexual matters.
Patients can either contact the service themselves or be referred by other agencies and sessions will last as long as they are needed.
There is internet access plus welfare and benefits advice and educational courses too. The centre is open between 9am and noon Monday to Friday.
Luan Deakin, counseling manager, said: “We’ve also got the go ahead to start a foodbank collection point.
“This means that people can leave food here to be picked up for use by the Durham Foodbank. If there is enough interest we could look at running a foodbank in Shildon.”
The group can be contacted via 01388-773598, email firstname.lastname@example.org or visit freewebs.com/southdurhamcounselling.
