Morris dancers in Durham City to help raise awareness of Motor Neurone Disease Association
Morris dancers entertain crowds in Durham City's Market Place in aid of Motor Neurone Disease Association
SHOPPERS and visitors to Durham City’s were kept entertained by groups of morris dancers yesterday (Saturday, October 5).
Members of the Durham Rams and Benfieldside Dancers performed in the city’s Market Place from 10.30am to 2pm in aid of the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MND Association).
Jean Brown, a local volunteer for the MND Association who organised the event said: “It went better than anticipated.
“Representatives of the association, who travelled from as far afield as Cumbria and West Yorkshire, said they hadn’t experienced an atmosphere quite like it before.
“There couldn’t have been less that 100 people watching at any one time.
“The morris dancers not only entertained the crowds, but also helped us take collections.”
Mrs Brown said the event, which included a stall with leaflets, was aimed at raising awareness of the support of the support the MND Association can give.
She said: “We managed to raise just over £300 through the event and would like to say a very big thank you to everyone who supported us.”
