A GIRL who won five gold medals at the Special Olympics has selected the winners of a prize draw to fund a popular community service.
Gymnast Chloe Hunt, 15, of Sowerby, drew the seven winners of Thirsk Tourist Information’s (TTI) summer fundraising drive, prizes for which includes a computer, an overnight stay at the Carpenters Arms, in Felixkirk and a framed watercolour of Thirsk by Wendy Gibson‐Brown.
TTI director Peter Rush said the prize draw had raised £787 for the volunteer-run centre, which needs about £30,000 a year to operate.
He said: “About 80 per cent of our income comes from traders who subscribe to our services and from sales in the shop, but we need events like this to make up the shortfall.
“We are very grateful to the local businesses that support us. Residents are using the centre more than ever – it should be called a visitors and residents information centre.”
