Newton Aycliffe man's life-story could help save lives
A FORMER company chairman who led one of the country’s biggest financial institutions is donating the proceeds of his life-story to the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS).
Ken Wilkinson, from Newton Aycliffe, penned his autobiography, The Circle of Life, to serve as a keepsake for his grandchildren and to inspire youngsters to follow their dreams.
By donating the royalties to the GNAAS, he now hopes his work will benefit even more people.
“The service is all about time and getting to scenes as quickly as possible, which the charity does incredibly well,” said Mr Wilkinson, 81.
“So many people are involved in accidents and without them many people could be much worse off.
“They are superb in every way.”
Born in Chilton in the 1930s, Mr Wilkinson is a miner’s son who rose from office boy to chairman and field operations manager of Liverpool Victoria insurance firm in London.
At the height of his long and successful career, he was in charge of 3,000 employees and was widely respected for his people skills.
Published last July, The Circle of Life has received rave reviews from strangers online, who have described it as “captivating,” “absorbing” and “truly inspiring.”
“I wanted to set an example to young people to say that nothing is impossible,” said Mr Wilkinson.
“If you want something; go out and grab it.”
The Circle of Life costs £9.99 and is available from amazon.co.uk/the-circle-life-kenneth-wilkinson
