Dogs and owners stride out through Houghall Woods to boost the coffers of local hospice

BEST feet and paws were put forward as dog owners and their pets took part in a sponsored walk.
More than 100 dogs of all shapes and sizes – and their human companions – followed one-and-a-half mile or three-mile routes through Houghall Woods on the outskirts of Durham City this morning (Sunday, October 13).
They were taking part in this year’s Paws for a Cause event organised by St Cuthbert’s Hospice to raise money for its work with the terminally ill.
“It went really well. We had 112 dogs taking part,’’ said Poppy Jones, of the hospice.
“I think it was around about the same as previous years, which was really good.”
The hospice hopes that when the sponsorship is all in it will have beaten last year’s total of £8.000.
“Luckily the rain, nor the dreadful forecast, put too many people off. We only had a bit of rain towards the end.
“Everyone seemed to have a really good time and the dogs were enjoying themselves
