Old heads face young bucks in charity football match in Durham
VETERANS of Sunday morning pub football are digging out their boots for a swansong appearance against a team of current players.
The old heads will hope their know-how overcomes the more youthful exuberance of their opponents in the charity 11-a-side game on the playing fields at Belmont School, Durham.
Saturday’s (October 19) match, dubbed The Wrinklies v The Young’uns, is being staged in aid of McMillan Cancer Care and the Treetops children’s ward, at Durham’s University Hospital of North Durham.
Kick-off is 11.30am, with the 90-minute match followed by a buffet and raffle, featuring signed Sunderland and Newcastle United shirts among the prizes, at Belmont Social Club, Grange Road, in nearby Carrville.
Supporters are welcome at the both the match and/or the post-match events.
QUIZ NIGHT: The Durham Deanery section of the Children’s Society is staging a quiz night, in the attached building at the rear of St Mary’s Church, in Front Street, Sherburn Village, near Durham, on Thursday (October 24), at 7pm.
It will be followed by light refreshments. Donations can be made at the event in aid of the society, with further details available on 0191-372 0952.
BELL RINGING: An open day is being staged in the bell chamber of Durham Cathedral. The Durham Cathedral Guild of Bell Ringers will give visitors an outline into the basics of the art and traditions of English Change Ringing, on Saturday October 26, from 1.30 - 4pm. Usual tower charges apply.
