Improvements to outdoor facilities at Woodland School, Teesdale, thanks to £10,000 grants boost
FACILITIES for outdoor activities at a small rural school have been improved as a result of two successful grant bids.
The Friends of Woodland School received £9,999 from the Big Lottery Fund and a further £750 from the Teesdale Action Partnership to develop outdoor areas.
As a result, staff and children have re-established the site of an old pond, fitting new liner, putting up a fence and turfing the area.
Elsewhere in the grounds, the school's adventure trail has been extended, while a run is being created for two new arrivals – rabbits Marmalade and Thumper.
Head teacher Judy Unsworth said as well as pupils, the new facilities were available to the local community through the village youth club and 3+ pre-school.
“These projects will provide a fantastic long-term resource for all our children in the school and local community,” she said.
