Decide which community groups get funding for Chester-le-Street projects
PEOPLE in Chester-le-Street are invited to vote on funding for local projects.
The area will get £42,000 from the Your Money, Your Area, Your Views Community Grants Fund. The Chester-le-Street and District Area Action Partnership and The North Durham Clinical Commissioning Group has each put up £20,000 and Cestria Community Housing, £2,000.
People will be able to vote for their favourite projects on Saturday November 9 at Park View Upper School, Church Chare, between 10am and 2pm. Anyone over 11 who lives, works, volunteers or studies in the Chester-le-Street and district AAP area can vote.
At the event groups will showcase what they would like the money for.
Brian Stephens, cabinet member for neighbourhoods and local partnerships, said: “It’s really important for the council to listen to the views of local people and for local people to have a greater say on important, and sometimes difficult, council decisions.
“Therefore we will be asking people to take some time out and comment on how they think the council can reduce its budget as a result of government spending cuts.
“And finally there will also be an opportunity to take part in the consultation on the County Durham Plan.”
