Official opening of new learning centre at Darlington College
A NEW technology centre has been officially opened at Darlington College as part of a £3m investment in the building.
Jenny Chapman MP recently unveiled the state-of-the-art centre which boasts innovative technology including a web-based video system that allows staff to observe and analyse lessons.
The facility is part of a £3m investment which includes a new construction zone with refurbished and enlarged workshops for vocational courses including bricklaying, joinery, plastering, and engineering.
Other planned improvements include a new facility for catering students, as well as new classrooms and a new science lab, plus a Costa coffee shop in the college atrium.
Principal Tim Grant said: “Our new centre shows Darlington College’s commitment to investing in the skills of our tutors to ensure that they can make the best possible use of new technology ensuring the future success of our students.”
Money is also being spent on the college’s outdoor facilities which will include a five-a-side all weather pitch, an outdoor learning area, sensory garden and outdoor gym.
Cutting the ribbon to launch the latest phase in the college’s development, Ms Chapman said: “It’s wonderful to be asked to come and open such an incredible facility which will help continue the professional development of teaching staff.
“The college does a wonderful job of equipping the young people of Darlington for their future careers and investment in the tutors that help them to achieve this is incredibly important.”
