Van driver airlifted after rush hour collision in St Helen Auckland

A MAN was airlifted to hospital after his van collided with a tree during rush hour.
The accident happened on Manor Road, near to the junction of Davis Avenue, in St Helen Auckland, shortly after 9am this morning (Tuesday, October 22).
The driver is not believed to have life-threatening injuries but was taken to James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, by the Great North Air Ambulance for treatment.
Police directed traffic while firefighters cut the man free.
Witnesses are asked to call Durham Police on 101.
