New disability sport for powered wheelchair users

DISABILITY SPORT: A new sport, Powerchair Football, is to be introduced at the Dolphin Centre for those who use powered wheelchairs. The four-a-side team sport is suitable for people of any age, as long as they can follow instructions and control their chair. Specially designed powered chairs will be provided. Free taster sessions will be held on Thursday, October 24 and Saturday, November 9, between 6.30pm and 8pm. FESTIVE FAIR: Diabetes UK will host a Christmas Gift and Craft Fair at Bondgate Methodist Church, in Salt Yard, Bondgate, Darlington, on Saturday, November 2, between 10am and 4pm. Stalls will include Fairtrade clothes, bags, hats and jackets, children’s books, handmade cards, jewellery, knitted toys and festive decorations. All proceeds will go to Diabetes UK.
AUTUMN FAIR: St Marks Church, in North Road, will host itsannual Autumn Fair on Saturday, November 2, at 11.30am. The event will include a tea room and a number of stalls and raffles. Admission free.
ART WORKSHOPS: The Bridge Centre for Visual Arts, in Yarm Road, will host two workshops by Deidre McCrimmon. The first, called Dare to Paint Large, will take place on Saturday, October 26, between 10am and 3pm, and aims to give people confidence to paint on a large scale using acrylics. Paper and brushes are provided but artists should bring their own paints. The second workshop, Creative Drawing, will be held on Saturday, November 2, between 10am and 3pm.
