Chester-le-Street Amateur Operatic Society stages musical classic
CHESTER-le-Street Amateur Operatic Society are staging Singin’ in the Rain, the classic musical made famous by Gene Kelly.
The show, which marks the society’s 110th anniversary, features Lee Brannigan and Peter Archer as best friends Don Lockwood and Cosmo Brown, alongside Sarah Bulmer as Kathy Seldon and Fiona Havercroft as film star Lina Lamont.
The show contains memorable songs such as Good Morning, Make Em Laugh, Moses Supposes and the iconic Singin’ in the Rain.
To celebrate its anniversary, the society has received good luck wishes from West End star, Adam Cooper, who has just finished playing Don Lockwood in the show at the Palace Theatre, London, ahead of the show starting a UK tour.
The group will also celebrate with David Ranson as he reaches a milestone 50 years as a society member. He joined in 1963 and was a member alongside his parents and his elder brother. He met his wife, Jackie, through the society and they recently celebrated their ruby anniversary.
The couple remain active members alongside their daughter, Joanne. Mr Ranson has been involved both on stage, as part of the back stage crew, and is the current treasurer. He will be presented with a gold bar from the National Operatic and Dramatic Association after curtain down on the final night.
The show will be performed in Park View Community Theatre, Chester-le-Street from Tuesday to Saturday November 5 to 9..
