Durham children hop, skip and jump for joy with new sports gear

CHILDREN at a primary school will be able to hop, skip and jump for joy after being presented with triple jump mats.
Finchale Primary School, in Durham, has taken delivery of sports equipment donated through a scheme run by supermarket Sainsbury’s.
The school collected 37,190 Active Kids vouchers, more than any other organisation in County Durham.
Head teacher Sandra Whittan said: "In the recent years we have a lot more equipment than we would have had it not been for the Sainsbury’s vouchers.
"We’ve almost come to relying on the vouchers because it gives us new ideas and a new approach and we manage to collect a lot of vouchers every single year."
The school has put the vouchers to good use, with equipment such as rugby balls, footballs and even triple jump mats being ordered for the children to use.
"Things like the triple jump equipment, that’s something we probably wouldn’t have got because we wouldn’t have known that this sort of equipment existed. As well as supplementing things we might otherwise buy and giving us a wider range of equipment, it also opens our eyes to new equipment."
Other local primary schools, including Framwellgate Moor Primary and Blue Coat CofE Primary have also been presented with new equipment under the scheme.
