Malton and Helmsley TICs facing closure

TWO tourist information centres in North Yorkshire are facing closure as part of cash-saving measures.
Ryedale District Council is planning to close the centres in Malton and Helmsley and to provide a high-tech service to tourists in the Pickering centre instead.
Commissioning board chairman Coun Steve Arnold said they would enhance facilities at the Pickering TIC, and expand the website and online service to tourists.
He said the plan was to have website points in Malton and Helmsley where visitors could access details of accommodation and attractions, similar to an arrangement at Thornton-le-Dale run by the North York Moors National Park.
“It is vital that we provide information for our visitors because tourism is so important to the economy of Ryedale,” he said.
“We believe we can provide the facility by using modern technology and the internet.”
