Tribute to late Ferryhill mayor
A TOWN council has paid tribute to a long serving member who passed away last year.
Ferryhill Town Council has unveiled a plaque in memory of the late Valman Woods to commemorate his hard work and achievements.
Mr Woods, a Labour party member, became a town councillor in May 1995 and held his seat until his death at the age of 60 in March 2012.
The married father-of-two represented the Ferryhill Station ward and was the first ever Mayor of Ferryhill, from 1999 to 2000.
At the request of the family, the plaque was fitted to a bench at Surtees Corner near the family home.
Mayor Ken Campbell was joined by Mr Woods’ wife Christine; sons Craig and Glynn; daughters-in-law Joy and Kim and grandchildren James, April, Owen and Cole for the unveiling of the plaque last week.
