Police crackdown on shoplifting and anti-social behaviour in Newton Aycliffe
SHOPLIFTERS and anti-social individuals could find themselves barred from a town centre.
Police and the managers of Newton Aycliffe Town Centre are issuing banning notices to anyone caught stealing or causing trouble in the main shopping area.
It follows several reports of anti-social youths congregating near the shops and is aimed at making the town centre a more pleasant place to be.
The town centre and multi-storey car park are privately owned and any banned individuals caught trespassing on the land will be escorted from the area by police and security staff.
A spokesperson from Newton Aycliffe Neighbourhood Police Team said a number of youths had already been barred.
“We would like to thank the town centre management and security staff for their help in dealing with these problems and making the shopping area a safer place,” he added.
