Nicola Gaffney has set up her own heating and plumbing business in Ferryhill

A WOMAN has launched a new plumbing and heating businesses after she completed a male dominated training course.
Nicola Gaffney, 39, of Ferryhill, has started Petite Heat Plumbing and Heating Services.
She completed training to City and Guilds level at both New College Durham and The Ladder Centre, in Ferryhill, in order to qualify for her role.
Mrs Gaffney combined also gained practical experience as she helped at the former A&A Building firm which was run by her husband Arnold Gaffney.
She said: “I’ve had a few people who have being surprised that a woman has turned up but others have told me they have called me because I am a woman.
“Ninety-nine per cent of the time I get good feedback from my customers.”
Petite Heat currently covers a circular area stretching 20-miles from Ferryhill and Mrs Gaffney works from home.
