Late cancellation of City of Durham Trust's autumn lecture
The City of Durham Trust has apologised for the late cancellation of its autumn lecture, due to take place at Elvet Riverside, in New Elvet, Durham, on Saturday (November 2), at 2.15pm. Scheduled guest speaker Sonali Craddock, who manages the Durham Business Improvement District, is unable to attend. But the trust’s Christmas card, which was to have gone on sale at the meeting, can still be ordered via DurhamCity.org, the trust website.
WARD SURGERY: Elvet and Gilesgate ward members on Durham County Council, councillors David Freeman and Richard Ormerod, hold their monthly residents’ surgery at 55a Old Elvet, Durham, on Thursday (November 7), from 6-7pm.
PIANO WORKSHOP: A piano workshop, overseen by tutor for the day Susan Bettaney, takes place at North Road Methodist Church, next to the city bus station, in Durham, on Saturday November 9, from 10am-5pm. The event, organised by Durham Young Musicians, is open to all, but of specific interest to anyone considering playing the piano or improving performing techniques. Students will play a series of prepared pieces and Ms Bettaney will comment and make suggestions as to how the performance can be improved. Admission for spectators to the workshop is £4, but reduced to £2 for members of Durham Young Musicians or concessionary groups. Children of school age will be free. Further details are available from Ian Rudd, on 07801-554394.
DIABETES SUPPORT: The next meeting of the Durham voluntary group of Diabetes UK will be held in the Diabetes Centre, at the University Hospital of North Durham, in Durham, on Tuesday November 12, at 7.30pm. The speaker, Ian Armstrong, a type-1 diabetic, will give a talk on his experiences travelling to and from Asia on his motorbike, and his other fund raising activities for Diabetes UK. Anyone with an interest in diabetes, particularly those with the condition and their helpers, are welcome to the meeting, which will be followed by refreshments.
