New shops opens at bowls club

AN international bowls player is branching out with a shop for enthusiasts at a well-known club.
The club, in the centre of the former mining town, has been in the spotlight as an England v Scotland women’s test match beimng played there has been screened lived by a leading satellite TV broadcaster.
The shop was officially opened today (Thursday October 31) by the vice-chairman of Durham County Council John Robinson.
Local county councillor Carl Marshall said the club was thriving and helping to portray a positive image of the town.
“Things like getting live televised is good for Stanley. It helps to put the town on the map.”
The club is to host the British Isles Championship in March, which is likely to attract 9,000 people to the area.
