Two events to spruce up the outer walls of Barnard Castle
MEMBERS of the public are invited to two community bulb planting days in Barnard Castle.
The Heart of Teesdale Landscape Partnership and Barnard Castle Town Council are holding the events for people to help plant bulbs along the outer castle walls at Barnard Castle.
They take place on Saturday, November 9, from 10.30am to 12.30pm and Wednesday, November 13, from 1.30pm to 3.30pm.
Participants should meet outside the castle entrance at Scar Top.
Additional planting is being carried out by Rotters, meaning a total of 10,000 daffodil bulbs will be planted along the outside of the castle walls to create a colourful spring display.
Karen Collins, volunteering officer for Heart of Teesdale, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for the local community to get involved in helping their town look its best.
“Bulb planting is a fun and easy activity that any age can be involved in and even if you can only spare half an hour you can still have a lasting impact.”
Barnard Castle’s town mayor, Coun Frank Harrison, said: “The planting of all these daffodil bulbs will give the castle walls a wonderful spring bloom and will further enhance the appearance and increase the enjoyment of the walk around the castle in springtime for locals and visitors for many years to come.”
