A SURVEY has revealed there is planning permission for 1,955 new houses in Hambleton, with permission for 229 agreed from July to September.

However in the past six months only 76 houses have been finished, falling well below Hambleton District Council’s target of 152.

Completed dwellings include houses at the former turkey factory in Dalton, the former abattoir site in Aiskew and York Road in Easingwold.

Building work has started at Sowerby Gateway, near Thirsk and Swaledale Court at Morton on Swale but large new developments at York trailers in Northallerton and Bedale Road, Aiskew are subject to revised proposals from new developers who are aiming to start work soon.

Hambleton councillors have been told that while there is a significant supply of sites with planning permission, completions are still slow.

A review of the Local Development Framework is being carried out to see how it can be improved.
