A CHARITY has helped spread festive cheer by treating dozens of vulnerable people to home-cooked Christmas dinners.

About 30 vulnerable adults and their families enjoyed a Christmas party at St Thomas Aquinas Church, in Darlington’s North Road, organised by the charity, Foundation.

For more than five years the organisation has supported vulnerable people in Darlington, and helped families at risk of homelessness.

They provide support and accommodation for homeless people throughout the town, as well as helping people gain the practical skills they need to sustain a tenancy, be a good neighbour and contribute positively to their local communities.

Siobhan Waller, housing support worker at the charity, said: “The Christmas party is an opportunity for customers and former customers who might otherwise feel isolated to come together and celebrate.

“They really enjoyed it, we had bingo with prizes donated by local businesses and a huge Sunday dinner.”

She also thanked the businesses who supported the event, which included Beanies, Sugarpie Cake Company, Morrisons, Farmfoods and Tesco.

Much of the work done by the charity is carried out by volunteers acting as mentors to people, with many people who have been helped by the charity going on to become a mentor.

Anyone wanting to become a volunteer can contact volunteer coordinator Elaine Williams on 01325-289410.
