PRINCE’S Trust volunteers have been working hard to spruce up a community allotment.

The 14-strong team of young adults spent two weeks clearing and tidying the site on the Woodhouse Close Estate for Proudfoot Pathways.

The group are coming to the end of their course but leader Pete Ahmed hopes to get the next team growing vegetables on the site next year.

They received money from a members initiative fund belonging to Councillor John Lethbridge after the group suffered a setback when their fundraising cash was stolen.

Mr Ahmed said: “This is one of the projects I am most proud of. It was a lot of physical work and they all got stuck in. I think it has made a big difference.”

The Prince's Trust programme has been run by Stockton Riverside College, at The Lightfoot Institute, Bishop Auckland, for 12 years, and aims to give jobless youngsters skills and experiences to help them find work.

Anyone wishing to take part in the next course should call Mr Ahmed on 07432-520483.
