A COUNTY Durham village will be transformed into a winter wonderland tomorrow (Friday, December 6) when the Christmas lights are officially switched on.

At 6pm, the Christmas tree on Trimdon Village green, next to St Mary Magdalene Church, will be lit up during an evening of festive fun.

Highlights will include free fairground rides, free Christmas cake and ginger wine, carols performed by Trimdon Brass Band and a burger van.

Sedgefield MP Phil Wilson will switch on the lights and Trimdon Parish Council is urging residents to come along and join in the festivities.

Councillor Paul Trippet said he hoped it would become an annual event, which, if successful, could be extended to Trimdon Grange and Trimdon Colliery.

He added: “I am looking forward to celebrating the start of Christmas festivities and hope as many people as possible attend the ceremony.

"Cold weather is forecast so wrap up well and come along to a warm reception.”
