A team leader who grasped the opportunity of a lifetime to trek across the Sahara has raised over £2,000 for the Carers Trust.

Jane Thornton , 22, from Bedale, prepared for the trek by pounding the rural roads near her family’s farm.

She has been working for the Coop store in Bedale for four years and decided to embark on the four day trek to raise money for the store's adopted charity, the Carers Trust.

“They provide support and aid for those who have to care for others, especially younger people who look after a disabled parent or sibling, the trust also helps them have a childhood too. Thank you to everyone for the amazing support and all the very generous donations. it really does mean a lot,” she said.

Ms Thornton covered many different terrains during the trek walking up and down the every changing sand dunes, watching the sunrise and even making a visit to a Nomad school .

Over the year the Coop nationally has raised over £5 million for the charity with the Bedale store organising many events including bag packs, cake stalls and even the manager keeping quiet for an hour.
