MORE than 50 decorated Christmas trees will be on display in a Barnard Castle church this weekend.

St Mary’s Parish Church’s Christmas tree festival takes place from Friday until Sunday, with each festive exhibit sponsored by local organisations.

Opening hours are 4pm to 7pm, on Friday, 11am to 6pm, on Saturday, and noon to 6pm, on Sunday, followed by a carol service among the trees at 6.30pm.

Entry is £4 for adults, including refreshments, and free for children.

OPEN MIC: There will be an open mic night at Butterknowle village hall, on Sunday, from 7.30pm to 11pm.

CAROL SINGING: The Off Key Singers will be singing Christmas carols in Gainford, on Saturday, starting off at the Cross Keys, at 6.30pm. They will then sing carols at two stops on Balmer Hill, Academy Gardens, Neville’s Close, then back to the Cross Keys for a grand finale. Money raised will go towards the Gainford Big Weekend.

ANNUAL PANTOMIME: The Team Players Theatre Company presents its tenth annual pantomime – The Wizard of Oz – at the Academy Theatre, in Gainford, on Saturday, at 2pm and 4pm. Tickets cost £7 for adults and £5 for children under 12. To book, call 01325-730922 or 01325-733140.

DANCE NIGHT: A dance with Bon Accords takes place in Hamsterley village hall, on Friday (Dec 13), at 8pm. Guests should bring their own food and drinks. Tea and biscuits will be served.

FESTIVE GIG: A Christmas concert is being held at Hutton Magna parish church, on Saturday, at 7pm. Supper, afterwards, costs £7. To book, call 01833-627281.

CHRISTMAS FAIR: A Christmas fair takes place at Middleton Farmers Auction Mart, in Middleton-in-Teesdale, on Saturday, from noon to 3pm. Free entry.
