THE MAYOR and mayoress of Darlington cut the ribbon and welcomed customers as a bank opened its new premises today (Wednesday December 11).

Lloyds Bank celebrated its move from Skinnergate to Northgate with an official opening ceremony this morning.

The town crier alerted the public to the event while customers enjoyed a glass of bubbly and chance to look around the new premises.

Branch manager Kay Lamont said the move, which takes the bank from a purpose built building to modern retail premises, would allow the bank to develop in line with other branches in the country.

She said: “Our property lease was coming to an end and the new premises fit well with the new design of the bank.

“We also wanted to be in the thrust of things in the centre of town, we think it will improve business and attract new customers.”
