Christmas entertainment planned for south-west Durham

THERE will be a carol service at Byers Green Methodist Church, on Sunday, December 22, at 6pm.

Spennymoor Town Band and pupils from Byers Green Primary School will be performing.

CHRISTMAS DANCING: People are invited to party the night away to live music from Mystified at Bishop Auckland Town Hall, on Saturday, December 21, at 7pm. Tickets cost £12.50 and include a hot and cold buffet. For more details call 03000-269524.

MEET SANTA: Youngsters can meet Santa on Saturday, December 21, in the Newgate Shopping Centre, Bishop Auckland, between 9.30am and noon, and later at the nearby Beales department store, in Newgate Street, from 1pm to 3pm.

SHOP DAMAGED: Thieves targeted Timpson, in Newgate Street, Bishop Auckland, between Saturday, November 30 and Monday, December 2. Witnesses are asked to call DC Emma McCabe, of Durham Police, on 101, ext 6732520.

FUNDS RAISED: Organisers of the annual Christmas fair at the Carlbeck Community Centre, in Lunedale, Teesdale, would like to everyone who helped make it success and visited the event. More than £2,400 was raised and will go towards the upkeep of the hall.

COUNCIL CLOSED: Chilton Town Council will close on Friday, December 20, at 3pm and re-open on Monday, January 6, at 9am. In the event of an emergency call 07918-685895.

BIKE THEFT: A bike was stolen from a house in Pinewood Close, Newton Aycliffe, between 8pm on Wednesday, December 11 and 5am on Thursday, December 12. Witnesses should call Durham Police on 101 and quote DHM-12122013-0234.
